About Valvolux Amplifiers

Located in Preston, Victoria, Valvolux Amplifiers has been building a reputation since 2006 for no nonsense service and advice based on years of experience in electronic engineering and active participation in Melbourne's world renowned music industry.

Stocking only quality replacement parts and with an obsession for neat and tidy work Valvolux is ready to look after your gear, but first a little background on the personnel behind Valvolux, me.

Whilst studying to gain qualifications in electronic engineering and working part time at a local amplifier repair business the seeds of the idea behind Valvolux began to form.

Combining a love of valve amplification equipment, experience as a touring musician (ok so I am just a bass player) and an ongoing career setting up and running high voltage electronic repair departments both here in Australia and in the United States the logical step was to start my own guitar amplifier repair service. I'm obsessed with quality engineering. Whether it be bathroom fittings, cakes or your Ampeg SVT I love quality, and having worked around some pretty meticulous engineers I have managed to glean insight into its whereabouts.

Whilst starting Valvolux Amplifiers was always my intention it wasn’t until I was challenged one night by a newly acquainted guitar store employee to get a bunch of business cards together and start an amplifier repair business, in fact his exact words from memory were,“ You’re a clown if you don’t do it!” Over and over again.

So, faced with this most grievous of insults Valvolux was born in February 2006, a little earlier than scheduled. Cards were hurriedly printed and cramped workspace organised as best it could be. The first customer showed up shortly after, clutching a Valvolux card handed out by the flinger of clown related accusations and I’ve never looked back since.

After that came the website 1.0 which was eventually deemed too ‘artistic’ by customers to be an effective communication tool. Serves me right for taking inspiration from a talented shoe gazing instrumental musician for a website with a minimalist approach to text. This has now been replaced by the site you are perusing at this very minute which I am working hard to make as wordy as possible. Better too much information than not enough as we technicians frequently like to remind our customers.

With the new website has come new dedicated premises to meet the ever expanding customer base that is now serviced by Valvolux Amplifiers. New premises means no more Valvolux related equipment strewn all through my house which means happy ladyfriend. Product ideas began to manifest themselves, first with the Golden Path A/B switch and more recently with ongoing development of mellifluous low wattage amplifier designs.
